🧠Multipurposing Our Tools
Sometimes, you need a hammer, and nothing else will do. More often, not only can a hammer do so much more than simply hammer, but many other things can do the job of the hammer, too.
The masters tools may not dismantle the master’s house, but we have the power to multipurpose those tools and use them for purposes for which they were not originally intended at all. And in doing so, we redefine their, and our, direction.
Do you have a hammer?
Since I was a kid with a wooden toy hammer, to today where I have multiple tool sets depending on whether I am repairing appliances, electronics, gadgets, furniture, or something else, I have always had a large tool set, because I have always been a repairer and builder. I can proudly say, I have a tool for virtually every task and job. But, occasionally, I do not have that tool kit with me because I am traveling, at a friend's place, or simply out and about. What do I do then?
Think about one of the most basic tools of any toolbox, the hammer. There are few tools that can do what a hammer does, as well as a hammer. I have used shoes, rocks, wrenches, random objects around me. I am fairly certain I have even tried to use my phone before, as a hammer (do not try this).
In fighting for liberation, one of the first questions we find ourselves asking is, "What tools do I have access to that can help me right now?"
But this first question is a reactionary one. There are other vital questions we must ask to help us navigate this mercurial and adversarial world right now. Let us get into those.
